New work: Kintsugi ceramic pendants
In progress- a huge batch of my newest item! These are porcelain pendants that will be decorated with kintsugi, decoupage, etc. I actually started these way back in the winter of 2019 but am just now getting around to finishing them since Covid kept me away from the ceramics studio for way too long.
I’ve applied to a few spring and summer shows, which is good motivation to get these finished! Some of the shows I would have applied for conflicted with plans I’ve already made, so I won’t be doing too many shows this year.
I always struggle with the decision of which shows to do and how many. I like selling at these events, but I also like traveling, hiking, spending time with my husband, and chill weekends where I putter around and do a little of this and a little of that.
I don’t like doing zero shows because then I don’t actually ever finish anything, but I don’t like doing too many either. I’ve also given up on the idea of trying to make any serious money at these things, so it does become a time vs. money calculation. Some shows are great and I sell lots, some shows are not so great and I don’t sell much, and you can never tell which will be which. I think it’s still worth doing, but not to be to serious about it (which is why I choose to make the vast majority of my income from graphic design).
Anyway, I could go on forever about the positives and negatives of local art/craft shows. I’ll share more photos of these pendants as they progress!
