Even if it’s a tedious pain in the ass. I decided that how I finished the backs of all 80 or so optician lens necklaces that I currently have on hand isn’t very appealing (and the rate of sale at this year’s shows has reflected that), so I spent most of Monday evening cutting out circles from some nice metallic silver paper, and most of  yesterday evening pulling the existing backing paper off each pendant.

Yawn. It actually wasn’t that bad since I watched Mad Men while working on it. (I’m only on Season 3 and am catching up via On Demand cable). I’ve been surprised by how much I like this show. It was really hard to watch at first, what with the blatant misogyny in the workplace and all. But of course that’s what it was like, not that long ago, and I feel so grateful that I can go to a workplace and not have to deal with that kind of thing. Not that crap doesn’t still happen or that there isn’t still a boatload of things that could improve, but still…At first I was afraid the show was misogynist, but then I realized there’s a difference between a show depicting misogyny and being misogynist.

I digress. Tonight will be spent putting the new backings on the necklaces. I was hoping to spend this week finishing up some new stuff, but I think this necklace redo will be time well spent since they’ll look a lot better.  I’m super stubborn and perfectionistic and hate admitting I’m wrong, but I definitely think in this case I’ve been clinging for too long to one solution when there was a better one available. Hopefully everything will be ready to go for this weekend’s show! (Art for the Cash Poor! Saturday and Sunday!).

I just signed up for three summer shows and realized I needed more inventory! It would be very easy to make multiples of each image, but I like to make each and every pendant unique instead. After all, that’s one of the benefits of buying something handmade by an individual- if you wanted something that five or a hundred or a hundred thousand other people have you could just go to whatever big box store dominates your local shopping landscape.

New lens pendants in progress. I’ve been trying to use up some of the larger recycled eyeglass lenses I’ve had sitting around for a while. I try not to make my daily photo about my work, but I didn’t really do much else of interest today. Working on projects and reading and sleeping and eating and not going outdoors at all make for very bad photo opportunities.
