I’m starting work on a whole bunch of new lens necklaces. I just signed up for three summer shows and realized I needed more inventory! It would be very easy to make multiples of each image, but I like to make each and every pendant unique instead. After all, that’s one of the benefits of buying something handmade by an individual- if you wanted something that five or a hundred or a hundred thousand other people have you could just go to whatever big box store dominates your local shopping landscape.

Here’s the last batch of necklaces I finished in 2009- a mix of watch parts, recycled eyeglass lenses, and vintage optician trial lenses. Look for more to come in 2010! Many of these are available on my Etsy site.

Monday September 7, 2009.

New lens pendants in progress. I’ve been trying to use up some of the larger recycled eyeglass lenses I’ve had sitting around for a while. I try not to make my daily photo about my work, but I didn’t really do much else of interest today. Working on projects and reading and sleeping and eating and not going outdoors at all make for very bad photo opportunities.

Here’s a little preview of some of the new work I’ll be bringing to Art for the Cash Poor this Saturday and Sunday! An entirely new kind of optician lens pendant with painted patterns, some new watch part jewelry, and a whole new series of mixed media collages.

Tuesday April 14, 2009.

Some new watchparts I ordered from Etsy seller watchbits199 arrived today! Can’t wait to get started making some new necklaces. In addition to some nice big gears I also got some pocketwatch faces, which is something I haven’t worked with before.
