Huge catch up post! I’ve been busy with some big projects, doing flying trapeze, getting ready for a circus show, and a nasty fit of depression (time to break out the SAD lamp!)

10/24/15- My last flying trapeze class for the season at Fly School Circus Arts. Which is sad. It’s an outdoor rig so classes don’t run past the end of October. I’m working on a new trick- layout- which is a lot of fun. I’ll have to see if I can figure out how to post video here.

10/26/15. I stamped the date for today on my journal pages but somehow didn’t get around to doing anything, so they became 10/27 instead.  I had my last drawing class of the 3-class session at University of the Arts. This time we drew deer skulls, which was a lot of fun, and I’m pretty happy with my finished drawing.

A classmate had a jar of powdered charcoal, so I played around with that. Made some interesting patterns and then smudged it all together for the preliminary background of my drawing. I definitely want to get a jar of that stuff for myself.

10/28/15. Finally finished the Industrial digital collage I’ve been working on. This screenshot is far from it’s finished state. Annoyingly, the power went out three times while I was working on this. I wasn’t able to save my file because Photoshop said it was too large (over 2GB!) but miraculously it somehow had auto-saved at least part of my progress after each outage so it wasn’t a complete disaster.

10/29/15. Really terrible mood. Somewhat mitigated by petting my Senegal parrot Cleo (AKA Pipa or Peeps), and going for a long walk around my neighborhood, which isn’t that exciting (I’d rather walk in the woods not around suburbia) but at least I saw lots of pretty trees. I collected a bunch of leaves to scan for October’s digital collage.

10/30/15. Went for a short walk in a local park to sit on my favorite rock, even though I had a ton of work I should have been doing. Felt a lot better after that, even though I just sat there for maybe 10 minutes. Later- dress rehearsal for the Halloween show at PSCA, which went really well and also made me feel better.

Also mood-improving, the annual Halloween ritual of hot apple cider, roasted pumpkin seeds, a fire, and carving a pumpkin. Halloween is my favorite holiday- lots of fun, low obligation, candy, costumes, pumpkins.

Cozy.

Cozy.

I usually do a rather elaborate pumpkin that takes several hours, but I was lacking both the actual time and the mental fortitude for that this year, so I did a quick scary face.

10/31/15. Played with spraypaint over some actual leaves for today’s journal pages. Started working on October’s digital collage. Better late than never, and this is the first month that I have failed to get this monthly collage finished on time.

It's a start!

It’s a start!

Didn’t have too long to work on this on Saturday morning as I had to get ready for the shows (one at 3pm and one at 7pm). I reworked a trapeze act I did for this year’s Student Showcase. The trouble with Showcase is that you only get one shot at it, so if you aren’t quite happy with your performance you don’t get a chance to do it again. That performance went pretty well, but there were a few things I wasn’t happy with that really bothered me. So I was really glad to have a chance to do it again. I was much happier with things this time. Plus I love having a strong theme/costume for my acts, so I had a lot of fun putting together a Grim Reaper costume.

Took me about an hour to do this.

Being in this show was so much fun and my fellow performers were all amazing. Earlier in the week when I was feeling depressed I wished that I hadn’t signed up for this, but thankfully the head-storm passed and I had the energy for it and it was really great.

Hello, November! October has been interesting, some bad, some good. I started out strong with Inktober but kind of lost steam on it. But I achieved my goal of reminding myself that I actually CAN draw, so that’s something.
