I’ve been happily focused on organizational matters today and yesterday- sorting through paper files, shredding things I don’t need, still working on updating the webshop. It’s incredibly tedious, but I do have approximately 150 digital collages to list. It’s taken me a while to find a setup for the shop that I’m really happy with and I hope to not have to redo it again for a long time. After getting fed up with Etsy, I tried Big Cartel for a while but since I hardly ever sell anything from my webshop I didn’t like paying $20/month and being limited in the number of items I could list. I then made my own shop using WordPress and WooCommerce, which seemed to be fine, but this past December I discovered that it had some huge technical problems (the whole site not working in IE, and product pages not appearing on my phone). I could have tried to fix it, but it takes me so long to do these things. I’m not a programmer by any means- everything I do website-wise is basically a matter of trial and error and cobbling things together. So I decided to move the site to the Square Marketplace, which is great since I already use Square for transactions at shows and now I also have a better way of keeping track of inventory. They charge a per-transaction fee, which is totally reasonable.
Saw the Hobbit Battle of Five Armies or whatever it’s called. I actually dozed off, which pretty much sums up my feelings about it. There was really no need to make three movies out of a relatively short book, so I’m inclined to suspect Hollywood moneygrubbing. And it worked- I shelled out my $15 for it even though I was somewhat unenthusiastic about the idea, because I had already seen the previous two and somehow I couldn’t NOT see the third one.
Today’s ArtJournal entry (well, the color anyway!) is inspired by my Christmas cactus. It is the only plant I have that has a name. It’s name is Dorothy- after my grandmother, who gave me a tiny cutting from her Christmas cactus.
