Back when I was a painting and printmaking major in art school, I scoffed at my design major friends’ fascination with typography. “How boring” I thought. Fortunately I have since come to realize that I was dead wrong- typography IS fascinating, particularly when let loose into the world as seen in The Journal of Urban Typography. The Journal is “dedicated to the documentation and study of signs, word fragments, and typography created with utilitarian intent in urban environments.” It’s an especially fun site because you can drag the images around and arrange them how you like, exploring interactions between different colors and type styles.
