For your enjoyment, a clever bumper sticker made by a coworker. Sometimes I think if I hear the word “maverick” one more time I’m going to scream.
And for fellow typeface-nerds a couple of interesting articles about the typefaces used by the Obama and McCain camps:
Article about McCain’s use of Optima.
Article about Obama’s use of Gotham.
(See, isn’t that clever how I posted something political but also made it about design? Haha.)
Addendum 10-14-08. I hate that the word “maverick” has been completely ruined for all time since it has been completely overused by the McCain campaign. I am reading something about the collage artist Kurt Schwitters and how his art relates to the idea of collecting objects. Really interesting, and relevant to my thesis project. But there’s this one sentence- “His maverick appetite opens onto the least seemly range of object on offer in the world: dishevelled remnants, discarded scraps, things so decidedly secondhand and unserviceable that they are routinely subsumed under the generic label of ‘rubbish’ – defined, that is, in the unredeemably negative terms of utter worthlessness.” An interesting sentence indeed, especially since my own scavenging instinct has kicked in with a vengeance lately. But I’m just stuck on the word “maverick” and as I kept reading I just pictured John McCain wandering around a junkyard. Sigh.
