I just spent a good chunk of my tax rebate in advance. Even though I keep saying I’m just going to stash it in savings out of spite because giving everyone $600 seems like a really dumb way to stimulate the economy. Plus I hate the idea of buying things as some kind of patriotic duty. So I’ll use what I bought to print subversive posters or something.Paper Source just got in the LARGE Print Gocco machines from Japan! It prints up to 6.5″ x 9.3.” I’ve been thinking about getting a Gocco for a while after seeing all the great things people have been making with them. I studied printmaking as well as painting in art school, but have never found a good way to keep doing printmaking. I have a tiny workspace in my apartment, no spare room I can get really messy, no photo exposure machine, no place to powerwash screens…Gocco is a little self-contained photo-screen exposure and printing unit. It will expose a screen with anything that comes out of a laser printer or photocopier or that you draw with a special carbon pen. I’m looking forward to playing with a new medium! Stay tuned for the results…

I want one of those.. I have no clue how to use it but I lust for it just the same.
Ooo… that’s another artsy gadget I would LOVE to have. Good to know that Paper Source is importing them now. Wasn’t there some talk last year or so of Gocco going extinct in the US?
I remember seeing Gocco’ed underwear a while back… maybe you could do limited edition granny panties (you know, more square area for design than a bikini).
Yeah, the company that makes them was supposedly stopping production. There was this whole savegocco website and everything. I was holding off on buying one for a while because I was afraid of not being able to get the bulbs and ink for it. I don’t know what happened, but the machines are still available and supplies seem to be easy to come by too.
I had completely forgotten about it but I put my name on a Paper Source notification list for when they got the big version in. It was probably more money than I should be spending right now after forking over so much for taxes, but whatever. Hopefully I’ll use it to make cool stuff and make the money back.
Good idea on the granny panties. I’m definitely considering doing some kind of fabric printing with it, although apparently there is some kind of special screen and ink you have to get for that.
The worst part is- it arrived this week, but it is still sitting under my desk at work! I’m deliberately leaving it there because I have two 20-page papers, a book review, a film review, and a presentation to have done by the end of the month. If I bring it home I’ll just want to play with it and I’ll never get my work done. Sigh.
