Bodies of Knowledge is an interesting online exhibit at the British Library: “For thousands of years the inner workings of the body have provoked fascination, confusion, amazement and even disgust. This site looks at the way different cultures, at various points in history, have looked at the body, and how these ideas have been translated into pictures.”
I especially like Fritz Kahn’s body machine illustrations. I actually really dislike thinking of the human body as a machine, but for some reason I’m fascinated by images that combine the mechanical with the organic.
